Inspired by Clue #186684 , airdate 12/5: This song had its beginnings as a book handed out to children at Christmas at Montgomery Ward Response: What is “Rudolph the Red-Nose(d ) Reindeer”? When adman Robert L. May was tasked with creating a children’s book for a department store’s annual holiday promotion, names like Rollo, Rodney, Romeo, and Reggy were considered for the title character who saves Christmas. He finally settled on Rudolph, and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" became one of the most iconic stories of the holiday season. May went on to make the tale a family affair when he asked his brother-in-law, a songwriter, to pen the famous tune. #BeyondTheClue
