Me just pondering life. Having an autoimmune disease isn’t fun, and when there’s one more will follow. It’s the nature of our bodies sadly. For me, it’s been a long hard road and it lead me to seek out other medical practices besides western to get some help. Creating your own wellness journey is individual to us all and being honest it’s a whole lot of trail and error. . . . The silver lining in all this situation is that I now have a great understanding of my body, it’s needs and the signs to see that a flare up is coming. Having went back to school for my knowledge on holistic nutrition has changed my life. I look at food as nourishment that tastes good, rather than it tastes good.... and we’ll worry about the nourishment later! How do you see food? Something yummy or something that is helping to build and fuel your body? . . . #autoimmunedisease #autoimmunewarrior #hypothyroidism #hypothyroidismweightloss #hashimotosdisease #psoriasis #buildingyourbody #holistichealing #rhntoronto #rhn #lifestyle #healthandwellness #journey #healthiswealth #adore #cumminschaudhari #fitnessjourney #fitness
THE KIDNEY MERIDIAN . THE KIDNEY The function of our kidneys is to remove waste and excess fluid through urine. This is where the body’s regulation of salt, acid and potassium occurs. The kidney controls our production of red blood cells and releases hormones that regulate our blood pressure - so they’re pretty important organs. I’ve learned through my own experience and working with others who are chronically ill that our kidneys are usually pretty stressed out - whether it’s from our illnesses themselves (lyme is a prime example here ) or our medications. When they are out of balance whether physically or energetically the above symptoms can occur including chest pain, edema and insomnia. HEALTH SUPPORT We can support our kidneys by drinking a healthy amount of water. Also, for those who tend to get kidney stones I like the addition of real cranberry or blueberry juice mixed with water and lemon - not from concentrate. Other foods and herbs include: Ginger Garlic Peppermint Blackberries Ginseng Black beans Cinnamon Radish . This year made sure that I hate myself at every cost. My illness started taking over me and I had decided that there's no going back to what I used to be. I am no more what I used to be and I don't think I will ever be. A lot of chronic illness is not visible and I want people to understand that If a person is getting up every day with a brave face even when his/her body isn't allowing them to be. Please be kind and generous towards them. I might not look weak, ill or in pain here in these pictures but to stand and let myself be the subject takes every ounce of strength and that's what I want people to understand that not every illness is visible. Let's stop judging people. I will keep pushing myself like this every day and will not let my illness define me. 📸: @quxotic_ #portrait #chronicillness #chronicpain #rheumatoidarthritis #autoimmunewarrior #rheuamtology #subject #pain #judgement #invisibleillness #invisible
So after my last post...feeling strong and healthy, I’m having a lupus flare for the first time in months. I contemplated posting this, because I don’t talk about it too often, but I’m doing it for everyone with invisible diseases. We have to raise awareness that it’s real, even if it can’t be seen. Even if you felt great yesterday. Even if you don’t look sick. Even if you smile in the midst of it. It knocks you down flat when you expect it least. I just had to admit to myself, once again, that this is how autoimmune conditions work...it’s unpredictable and no two days, or months, are the same. You have to cancel plans and say no to invitations. There are a million things you’d like to do, but you have to settle for one or two. Tomorrow you might get to three! As soon as you push yourself too hard, your body let’s you know. I guess it’s all about finding balance, even on the days when you feel strong, to keep pacing. So much love to anyone else going through a flare or health setback right now. Rest, eat well, and focus on what you can do. God is still in control 🙌🏻🤗♥️ #rest #keepgoing #autoimmunedisease #autoimmunediet #lupus #lupuswarrior #lupusawareness #autoimmunewarrior #yougotthis #lupuslife #autoimmuneprotocol #invisibleillness

Just the essentials. These things literally need to be taken everywhere! Usually when people ask someone what’s one thing they could not live without they get an answer like my phone, or my internet. Well not only for us diabetics is the answer completely different but it also can’t be answered as one thing. There’s multiple things we can’t survive without. We NEED insulin, we NEED a glucose machine, we NEED test strips, we NEED lancets, we NEED needles and we NEED sugar of some sort for hypos. #diabetes #diabetic #diabetesawareness #diabeteslife #typeonediabetes #typeonediabetic #typeoneawareness #typeonestrong #typeonewarrior #typeonelookslikeme #typeonelife #type1diabeticlife #type1diabetes #type1diabetic #type1strong #type1warrior #type1lookslikeme #type1life #t1diabetes #t1diabetic #t1dstrong #t1dwarrior #t1d #t1dawareness #t1dlife #t1dlookslikeme #autoimmunedisease #autoimmunewarrior

How often you just don’t have the energy to do anything? Many people with #chronicillness feels that their health issues prevent them from living the life they want because they feel #sickandtired all the time, lack motivation and are in pain most of the time... More people are getting diagnosed with #lupus #autoimmunedisease #chronicfatigue #adrenalfatigue or #fibromyalgia at a young age. As a result women, in their 20s and 30s feel #tired #exhausted and sick and no amount of sleep can help with it. Profound #fatigue is one of the most debilitating symptoms that can affect every aspect of your life, career, parenting and relationships. For many fatigue appears first and is the last symptom to improve. So what can you do? Here’re some tips: 1. Make sure you are getting a proper diagnosis, an optimal treatment and your medication is optimized. 2. Check out your protein intake. Many #chronicallyill people have protein deficiency because they cannot properly digest and absorb protein. As a result they have low energy and fatigue. Adding some protein with improved absorption factor can help. 3. Impaired gut microbiome and gut flora affect so many factors that can lead to feeling sick and tired all the time and low immunity. Replenishing good gut bacteria can help with depression, #brainfog fatigue and better digestion and absorption of nutrients from your food. What’s the solution? Currently a reputable health company is giving away FREE live potent probiotic and high quality premium protein powder that provides 10-fold absorption. You can get it through https://lupusselfhelp.com/free just use the link in my profile bio @outsmartlupus <<== click to get it!

Today: 💠I took a hike with the kids and let them choose the trail. 💠 we ended up at the ocean and we splashed in the waves in our regular clothes and got completely dirty & soaked 💠 we laughed so hard it hurt 💠 I got sand in my eye, lost a contact lens, and walked back with one eye closed “like a pirate” (Bryn’s words ) It took 21 days away, but I let go a little. My kids were delighted, I surprised myself, and more so surprised @bengurrad 😉 I’m not the fun mom by nature. I had a migraine most of the day and wanted to stay in bed. I’m learning to be flexible, have fun, and make memories. Sometimes the fun eases the pain. I hope my kids look back and remember all our adventures together and see how even as a grown-up I’m learning and growing and making space for the healing that comes with an unscheduled day, giggles, and salt water. 🧠The Effects of Stress on the Brain 💥Stress is unavoidable, and it’s actually necessary. Stress is a biological response designed to defend against dangerous situations. When you feel stressed, your brain mobilizes the rest of your body to take action, triggering the release of two hormones, adrenaline and cortisol, to prime you to stay and fight or run away. For our ancient ancestors, the stressor might have been the threat of an animal attack. In the modern world, the stressors are different, but the body’s response hasn’t changed. 🤷♂️The body’s reaction to stress is meant to be short-lived and not always in the “on” position as it is for many midlife women. Once the threat, real or imagined, has passed, adrenaline and cortisol levels return to normal. ⏱Prolonged stress is different, as it increases cells’ exposure to adrenaline and cortisol, which can promote weight gain and affect the digestive system, cardiovascular system, and mental health. For example, cortisol supplies the body with energy to respond to stressful situations, and by that we mean literally running away from what you perceive as dangerous. 🤓That can be a good thing, but it has a downside. 🔥Cortisol may cause elevated blood glucose levels that last longer than they should, which in turn stresses the pancreas to produce more insulin. 🧠Cortisol can also mess with memory. In a study of midlife women and men, researchers found that higher blood levels of cortisol were associated with a lower brain volume, which is important because brain volume is linked to memory. 🤯Life will never be totally stress-free, but you should try to manage stress as much as possible. Chronic stress can lead to behaviors with the potential to harm the brain, including smoking, excess alcohol intake, and “stress-eating” fatty and sugary foods, like ice cream, cookies, and chips, on a regular basis.

How do you take care of YOU? Whether it’s hashtag “treat yo’self” or “self-care Sunday” we all have modern culture to thank for a timely return to kindness toward ourselves. I am a single mom of 2, so free time is tricky. I try to carve out a few hours a week to take a bath, read a book, or just sit quietly in the morning sunshine. What’s your self-care routine?

A person’s symptoms are as individual as their finger print. Yet there are basic things that can help improve many symptoms in many different health conditions because they support your body’s natural ability to fight a disease, recover and heal. For example, probiotics and adequate amount of protein can help with #lupus #hypothyroid #hashimotosdisease and #autoimmune symptoms including hair loss, #fatigue and #brainfog ? Here's why you should consider to give it a try: 1. Maldigestion and malabsorption of protein that is so common in people with #autoimmunedisease #chronicfatigue #hypothyroidism #hashimotos and SLE affects your energy levels. As a result, lack of protein is one of leading causes of feeling #sickandtired in these particular groups of patients. Improving absorption of protein can make a huge difference and you may notice more energy within days. 2. Potent live probiotics are generally beneficial gut bacteria that are vital for development and support of your #immunesystem . Particularly, they help to decrease flare ups frequency and extend the lupus remission length, improve T4 to T3 thyroid #hormones conversion and help to eliminate the waste more efficiently when you suffer from constipation. As a result your energy and many other symptoms like depression, brain fog and hair loss improve. You can get more probiotics with your diet by consuming cultured and fermented foods such as yogurt with live cultures, kefir, acidophilus milk, miso, sauerkraut, and tempeh because they are naturally high in probiotics.⠀ Another option is to take high quality probiotic supplements. ⠀ I would like to let you know that right now everyone who would like to try and experience the benefits can get a FREE bottle of live potent probiotic (50 billion of good bacteria which is substantially more than in probiotic containing foods and has 6 probiotic strains ) and a FREE container of high quality protein that provides 10-fold absorption. Both probiotic and protein are truly free, no strings attached, worldwide shipping. You can get it through my website https://lupusselfhelp.com/free or Just click the link in my instagram profile description @lupusselfhelp
Where you are a year from now is a direct reflection of the choices you choose to make right now. 1 year almost exactly. This blew my mind yesterday. I’m not even done, I’m just getting started. Y’all...I can’t wait to see where I am another year-2 years from now. If by then I can climb those stadium stairs with ease. 😏💯💭 (Maybe we’ll be allowed back at the games ) I can tell you this much. I am making my own shirt for that game. #lionsfan Just curious what choices are you choosing to make? #footballseason #mondayvibes #oneyeartransformation #letscallitacomeback #phoenixrising #mondaynightfootball
Hey babe, THIS is not the end game. There is so much ahead of you. No matter what you’re going through right now, remember that you’re growing and evolving as a result. The version of you that got you HERE is NOT the version of you that will get you THERE. Find growth + challenge yourself every single day so you can realize your true potential and purpose on this beautiful planet. Yes, it can be messy and scary and sad; that’s OKAY. It’s a process that you just have to trust. Keep listening to that little voice inside you and let it guide this journey; your intuition knows what’s up 😉 (even if you don’t quite understand the ‘why’ right now ). You are beautiful and worthy and resilient and the sooner you open up your eyes to the endless possibilities in front of you, the sooner you’ll become the person you’re meant to be. Keep evolving through life rather than holding onto stagnant energy. Lean into the growth, embrace the discomfort and learn the lesson so you can move on into the next beautiful phase of your life. Everything is as it’s meant to be. Just keep on keepin’ on, babe. 😘
Next time you want to pressure someone to eat outside their normal habits, just keep ya mouth shut 🙃 “One piece won’t kill you.” Yes, you’re right. It won’t kill me…BUT it will likely make me feel terrible for a few days and to me, that’s just not worth it most of the time. I eat in a way that feels good to my body; I don’t categorize the way that I eat. If I REALLY want something outside my norm, I eat it. But for the most part, I stay away from foods that I know flare my RA and gut symptoms. It’s taken A LOT of time, trial & error and continuous work to understand my body’s needs and how to manage my symptoms holistically (primarily with food + plants ). There is nothing more frustrating than when someone doesn’t respect my eating habits because they have NO IDEA what it’s like. 🙅🏻♀️ But I get that it’s hard to understand if you’re not personally going through it. So let me paint a picture for you: 👉🏽 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼: We go out to dinner and you get a delicious molten dark chocolate cake for dessert (full of gluten and dairy - two foods I avoid 95% of the time ). 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲: 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔 ) Decide that I REALLY want to have some cake and split it with you. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁: Stomach cramps and gas pain all night, joint pain/swelling/extra stiffness for unknown length of time (sometimes a day or sometimes more than a week ), extreme bloating/stool irregularities/smelly gas for days (yep, embarrassing 🥴 ), chronic fatigue, and a lot of times even skin breakouts. 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕 ) Decide that while I want it, I can live without it and make dark chocolate superfoods brownie batter when I get home. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁: Satisfies my sweet tooth and NO disruptive, miserable symptoms (in fact, it HELPS my symptoms )! It’s not an easy decision! Deciding between momentary satisfaction and feeling good long term is tricky and peer pressure makes it even harder. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: It is NOT your place to tell other people what “won’t hurt them.” You’re NOT in their body & can’t FEEL what they go through internally from that “one piece.”
Behind my smiles, you should know that part of why I’m in this space is because of an invisible struggle. And this past week it knocked me down flat.⠀ ⠀ I have an autoimmune condition called Eosiniphilic Esophagitis or EoE, which makes my esophagus swollen and narrow, makes swallowing and eating difficult and painful.⠀ ⠀ It is frustrating, and at times, terrifying. But how I discovered, treated, and manage it I think is core to what I want you to discover in your own health.⠀ ⠀ I was diagnosed with it 12 years ago, after a lifetime of struggling with GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease, and finally being fed fed up with a pattern of pain and coping mechanisms helped me realize that I didn’t have to accept my suffering.⠀ ⠀ I was able to get my diagnosis, find temporary ways to manage it, and then find more permanent ways through diet and lifestyle changes to heal my gut and get off my medications—more on that coming soon!⠀ ⠀ But autoimmune conditions are tricky and there are lots of triggers. This past week I was reminded that those can include stress, alcohol, and caffeine—all of which have increased during this pandemic. And the straw that broke the camel’s back was that I got food poisoning.⠀ ⠀ Chronic illness can be such a painful struggle, especially when you believe you are stuck in cycles of medication and side effects with no way out. And maybe you feel that way too, as more people than ever are developing formerly rare conditions in our world of ever-increasing toxins in our air, water, soil, and household products.⠀ ⠀ My goal here is that I want to empower you to see your health the way I do—your food, your lifestyle, your stress, the products you use—they are all factors affecting your health. ⠀ ⠀ I’m excited about the changes I’ve already seen from some new practices and products that are helping my gut, my autoimmune condition, and my fertility. I’m excited to share them with you in my own journey of healing!⠀ ⠀ So I’d love to know, do you or someone you love suffer from chronic illness? Do you find it hard to cope with your lingering health struggles?
I lost 7 pounds. And I didn’t mean to... Weight loss has never been a goal of mine. I VERY rarely even step on a scale (like, basically only at doctors appointments ). I base everything on how I FEEL and sometimes how I look (who doesn’t 🤷🏻♀️ ). I’ve been stressed and I felt like I’ve lost some muscle/strength but I know I’ve been doing what I can to stay on top of my wellness routines and to take care of myself. However, seeing that NUMBER on the scale yesterday was shocking. That silly little NUMBER completely skewed my perception of myself. The first words that crossed my mind when I looked in the mirror were “sickly” and “scary.” It seems that stress has gotten to me... I haven’t been hungry and I’ve been very busy. & I’m a little embarrassed to admit that there have been many forgotten meals in the last couple weeks. I’ve been doing my best to remember to eat but ya know, we all have our weird ways that our bodies react to stress. 👉🏽 Here’s what I know: 1. I’m doing the best I can right now. 2. A number on a scale does NOT define me. 3. I commit to nourishing my body properly. 4. I have a chance to do better every new day. 5. I still love and respect my body. Love your body at ALL stages. Our bodies do SO much for us. Don’t let a number on a scale define your worth or affect your perception of yourself. Do what you know is right for your body and take care of yourself, no matter what life throws at you. 💕 You are beautiful and you are worthy, in every season.

It is really easy to lose ourself having a chronic illness‼️😕 When I first got sick I completely lost myself and my capability to do things that once were easy for me, but now are a little more challenging. 😞 Almost anytime I walk outside now I have to wear sunglasses due to my light sensitivity, even during overcast days. 😎 ⛅ It took a lot of working on myself to get comfortable in my own skin again after having so many people beat me down with their words because they just didn't understand... 😔 I am there with you. YOU ARE NOT ALONE‼️ ❤️ It took years of building myself back up from who I thought I was before, but when I began working on myself from within it did so much for me. 🧘♂️ This allowed me to regain my confidence that I had lost from so many people not believing me for so long and going years of being undiagnosed and even being diagnosed as a hypochondriac, which can really take a huge mental toll on you. 😫 I have since bloomed into the beautiful person that I am today, and this wasn't a short or easy journey, but well worth the work. 🌻 😊 How do you keep your self identity⁉️ Stay strong and mindful #chronicwarriors ! 💪🧘♂️ ❤ DMs are always open... Show your support by following @chronicallymindfulmatt as we continue to put mental health and chronic illness at the forefront of our conversation double tap ❤ if you are enjoying the content. ❤ #healing #awareness #chronicillness #chronicpain #fibromyalgia #celiac #disabled #chronicfatigue #crohns #crohnsdisease #butyoudontlooksick #cfs #fibro #chronicillnesswarrior #fibrowarrior #endometriosisawareness #autoimmunewarrior #crps #fibromyalgiaawareness #spooniestrong #brainfog #spoonieproblems #invisibleillnessawareness #spooniewarrior #chronicmigraine #cfsme #feedingtube #autoimmuneawareness
What’s your favourite way to spend a Sunday? For so long I saw Sunday’s in a negative way: I’d spend the day dreading the week ahead and not wanting the weekend to end - I’m sure I’m not the only one who has felt that way?! But rather than seeing a Sunday as the end of the weekend, I now see Sunday’s as an opportunity to set myself up for a good week, by filling it with things I love and that help me prepare for the upcoming week. This little mindset shift has helped me so much - it helps me feel more positive and actually look forward to the week ahead! So what’s my favourite way to spend a Sunday? It’s got to be: 🍳 Brunch 🌳 Fresh air 📝 Planning out my week 🍗 Roast dinner 🛀 A bath (of course! ) Now you all know my love for baths, but my baths have just been upgraded, thanks to this @deepcalmco bath caddy! I mean, how dreamy does this set up look?! 🛁 Baths are a great way to relax and can have a greater positive impact on your mood than physical exercise - as if you need an excuse to skip the workout and jump in the bath instead! They can also help reduce stress, anxiety, anger and depression, as well as helping us sleep better! And as if I needed an excuse to spend any longer in the bath: I can now watch Netflix and enjoy a cup of tea, whilst having a soak! I’m going to look forward to my baths even more now! So let me know in the comments - what’s your favourite way to spend a Sunday? (*PR Product )
One year ago as I was stepping on stage in front of 5000 people, a friend genuinely and eagerly asked if I was pregnant. 😳 Nope. But I WAS 1-yr post miscarriage and my hormones were junk. She meant well but it also shook me a bit. I was at my highest weight ever and feeling it and completely unsure how to fix anything. . Enter the chaos of 2020, during which I figured out what was wrong with me: Hashimotos thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition— likely brought on from the hormonal onslaught of the miscarriage and...well, stress (anyone else feel like that was is the word of the year for 2020?! ). . This is me 30-35 lbs lighter and feeing pretty dang awesome. How? Nothing fad diet or with a fancy name... just good old fashioned simple stuff: // Managing diet & supplements // daily routine with my essential oils // Leaning heavily on healthy living and using all my tools for further detoxing my body & home // Support from a husband who loves to cook and has adapted it to my new lifestyle (He’s totally rocking culinary school right now and I’m gonna live my BEST life as a result! ✌🏼 ) . I also turned 40 this year feeling FAB and to paraphrase my friend... “When you are healthier at 40 than you were at 30 you stop giving a damn what people think.” 🙌🏼 YEP!! . I’m not fully healed but I’m on the road. I’ve received so many requests for help, info, and direction on how I’ve seen this level of process!! WAY TO GO, friends who want to feel better about your health and are taking the steps for it! I’m planning a zoom call for ANY of you who want to learn more, an excited to offer help & continuing education as I learn more. **check my bio for the link to get class info!!!** Doesn’t matter where you’re at on the journey of health, let’s chase radical wellness together!
In July of 2013 I was laying in a hospital bed, facing either a brain tumor or multiple sclerosis relapse, wondering what the future would hold for me 🏥 In September of 2020 I got married to the love of my life ❤️ A lot of things have changed since July of 2013, but my tenacity has stayed the same 💪🏼 My message to those of you who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness, life will change, but you are still capable of great things ✨ #multiplesclerosis #thisisms #chronicillness #autoimmunedisease #autoimmunewarrior #multiplesclerosisfighter #chronesdisease #diabetes #diagnosedatayoungage #diagnosed #ms #mswarrior #disability #disabilityadvocate #disabilityinclusion #rrms #ppms #spms #ocrevus #tecfidera #braintumor #nationalmssociety #abilitynotdisability #ability #ability360 #nationalmssociety #myeline #lupus #diabetestype1 Hair and makeup by @looksbylilie Photography by @taranphoto
